The swift response of the Security companies, SAPS and residents led to the arrest of three house robbery suspects today.

Laudium Police spokesperson, Sergeant Simon Chokoe said they arrested three suspects aged between 22 and 25 on Thursday afternoon after they received a complaint about a house robbery that had taken place on 15th Avenue and Scarlett Street in Laudium.

“Three armed men entered the yard and pointed the victim with firearms and pushed him into his house. The suspects demanded the keys to the safe and money.” He added.

Prajay Ramjee from PAJ Community Patrollers said they received a distress call from a client reporting that his neighbour was being robbed.

“Quick response from residents, FADT, ProActive Security, Pro-VIP, COPS, Shahs Tactical, PAJ Community Patrollers, SAPS & TMPD lead to the arrest of 3 suspects. Within minutes of the call, the block was surrounded. One suspect locked himself in the lounge, members from Pro VIP & Laudium SAPS found the second suspect in the ceiling and the 3rd suspect who fired at an FADT response officer with a rifle escaped into neighboring yards but was later caught on the roof of another home.” Ramjee added.

It is further alleged that suspects demanded safe keys and money.

One shot was fired and no one was injured during the incident.

A 22 revolver with the serial number filed off with three live rounds and one rifle pellet gun (Air gun) was seized.

Laudium SAPS Station Commander Lieutenant Colonel Margaret applauded SAPS, members of the security companies and the community at large for their swift response.

Colonel Margaret further urges the community to continue working closely with the police on fighting crime.

“Together we can create a safer community.” She added.

The suspects will appear in the Atteridgeville Magistrate court soon.
