Sutherland High School matric learners consistently produce outstanding matric results. Congratulations to our Class of 2020 who achieved a 100% pass rate, 383 distinctions and a 91.43% Bachelors pass rate.

Last year was one of the most formidable years we have faced as we navigated through the obstacles that the COVID-19 Global Pandemic enforced upon our school and our nation. We extend our heartfelt sympathies to all who have lost loved ones during this time.

While the year was extremely strenuous and placed our learners and staff in a vulnerable position due to lost contact teaching time, we were astounded at the resilience and unyielding commitment and support of our learners, staff and parents.

We are grateful to our staff for their relentless endeavours to ensure the academic success of our learners.

Mrs Elinor du Preez, the Head of Academics said, “I am very proud of our teachers and learners who have worked extremely hard under difficult and unsettling circumstances. They have all risen to the challenge and have done more than what was expected of them”.

Moving over from contact teaching to online teaching was a mammoth task and we are thankful to our IT Department for making the transition as smooth as possible and for the support they provided to our staff and learners.

Mr Stone, The Principal, has been a pillar of strength and has been steadfast in his guidance and wisdom throughout the challenging year. He encouraged the learners to complete daily tasks such as reading, completing homework and studying. We believe that focusing on these tasks helped our learners maintain a routine that contributed to the excellent results.

We are most grateful for the dedicated screening and support staff teams who have made sure that we have a COVID compliant and safe environment for staff and learners to enjoy.

We are thankful that COVID has not been able to dampen the enthusiastic spirit of our learners.
