Six CIT Robbers Shot Dead in Laudium while enroute to a "safehouse" at Mahpral Heights

A joint operation involving various law enforcement units resulted in the fatal wounding of six suspects and the arrest of one in Laudium, Pretoria, yesterday.


The operation, which was intelligence-driven, targeted suspects involved in armed robberies and cash-in-transit (CIT) heists around the country. The suspects were planning to commit a CIT heist in Attlyn Mall, Atteridgeville.


Police spotted the suspects' vehicles, an Audi A4 and a BMW X1, both with false registration plates. As members attempted to stop the vehicles, a shootout ensued, resulting in the fatal wounding of six suspects.


The one suspect who attempted to flee the scene ran towards a safehouse located in Maphral Heights (pink flats), Laudium. However, he was swiftly apprehended by SAPS members en route.

The operation yielded significant seizures, including:


- Four unlicensed firearms and ammunition

- Hand gloves

- False registration plates

- Cellphones

- Two sought-after vehicles, an Audi A4 and a BMW X1


The arrested suspect will face multiple charges. Further investigation is underway to link the suspects to other crimes.
