Blue Bulls skipper Nizaam Carr and Stormers counterpart Salmaan Moerat celebrated a ‘milestone’ achieved during Friday night’s clash.
Bulls put five tries past Stormers and held on for a 34-29 victory in an entertaining North vs South clash at the Loftus Versveld in Pretoria.
For the first time ever there were two Muslim skippers in a match of top-level SA Rugby and there were two other Muslims involved- Stormers head coach Labeeb Levy and strength and conditioning coach, Riefaat Jappie.
Nizaam Carr posted on his Facebook page on Saturday morning, “Allah first. The rest will always fall into place. Welldone #Salmaan and your team. I am very happy for you. A tough but enjoyable game last night alghamdulila 🙏🏼”
As seen on the picture posted on Facebook, the four men posed for a photo outside a Prayer Facility on Friday prior to the match. From left to right, Labeeb Levy, Nizaam Carr, Salmaan Moerat and Riefaat Jappie
“I think he did extremely well. He’s a young lad who did his family and the community proud. And it’s a big milestone, as myself and him made history today so I just want to congratulate him for that,” Carr said about Moerat in a SuperSport interview.
