Local resident Saber Gani has taken it upon himself to trim the grass on the island at the corner of the R55 and M26 roads. This comes after witnessing an attempted robbery on Tuesday morning at the traffic lights.
Saber told Laudium Today he seen a lady parked at the robot and three men approached her, one with a knife. It’s when he said to himself let me get a team to cut this overgrown grass as it poses a threat to motorists. Saber asked others to get involved and take on this same initiative, “as it’s for our own safety.” He intends to cut the grass at the entrances to Laudium as well.
“Luckily the robots had turned green and she sped off.” Saber added.
Laudium Today then contacted Laudium Disaster Management for assistance. Head of LDM, Ibraaheem Dockrat got his team together on Wednesday to cut a small portion of the island on the M26/R55.
Three accidents were reported at this intersection recently.
The team of volunteers also cut a portion of the island coming into Second Avenue at the Muhammed’s Hardware entrance.
