By Nabila Cassim (Granddaughter)
A giant in the teaching profession, Mr Cassim had sadly passed on, on the 4th October 2020.
Even though Mr Cassim had retired many years ago, he had left a lasting impression on virtually all his students & former colleagues.
He was our teacher, our mentor, our grandparent, our friend.
He strived to teach us, not only the work in our syllabus, but he strived to guide us towards a special understanding of life and how life could be contained through memory, song and happiness..
He valued the relationships he had with each and every person that was a part of his life.
Honestly, you never really know the true impact you have on those around you.
We are confident that he boasted many treasured friendships and many memorable interactions with his students.
We always relate to incidents where we walk through school halls or even a mall and we are stopped and called 'Klein gammatjies' by former colleagues of his. They share stories with us on his outstanding character and their shared adventures.
Former students would reminisce and tell us how our grandfather made the classroom a brighter place with his knowledge, wisdom and funny stories!
It is easy for us to boldly proclaim that our grandfather was an amazing person!
It is easy for us to proclaim this because we have consistently been hearing how he was loved throughout and even beyond the field of education
We have been hearing it throughout our schooling.
We are confident we will continue to hear how amazing he is as people will continue to scream 'Klein gammatjie' to us - into the future.
We humbly request, that as you remember him, please remember him in your duas.
May Allah (SWT) grant him Jannatul Firdous.. Aameen.
