Police have arrested dozens of workers and City of Tshwane employees after they allegedly tried to steal transformers from the Laudium sub-station on Cuprene Street.
Heavy duty trucks, including a crane have been confiscated. Some transformers were already loaded on council trucks.
Authorities reacted after a tip-off from the community.
A vehicle registered under the TMPD Safety was also at the scene.
Mayor Dr Nasipa Moya is furious and says the law will come down hard on those arrested.
Investigations are underway.
