Its been a week of anticipation for the Matric Class of 2021 as the release of their final results loomed, and by Thursday evening many had learned their fate.

While the national pass rate only increased by 0.2%, at 76.4%, the country saw the highest number of Bachelor passes in National Senior Certificate history.

During the results announcement, Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga said "It is important to remind the nation that for the past 10 years, the NSC [National Senior Certificate] pass rates have consistently been going up from 60% in 2009, to above 70% in recent years. The Class of 2021 must be commended for maintaining this trend, despite the astronomical challenges they faced."

Gauteng came in second to the Free State with a pass rate of 82.8%, down one percentage point from 2020.

Here in Tshwane, we saw some of the top performing schools, and on Thursday night hundreds of students gathered at the Engen in Laudium in anticipation of the release of their results – Laudium Today consolidated the results and distributed a hard copy newspaper featuring the local schools.

The overall top learner in the Laudium schools is Nabeel Ayob of Tshwane Muslim School with an average of 92.125%.

Tshwane Muslim School ranked 5th in the country, while they were placed 2nd in Gauteng and they are the top performing Muslim school in Gauteng with a 100% Bachelors Pass and 170 Distinctions at an average of 3.091 distinctions per learner.

Top achiever in the Laudium area, Nabeel Ayob says it took dedication and determination to get him through.

“It took a lot of discipline; we weren’t at school so the teachers weren’t constantly checking that you’re doing your work. You had to do it and if you didn’t do it, no one was going to do it for you. And if you didn’t keep up with the work you would have fallen behind, so it took a lot of discipline and it was difficult for me to stay disciplined,” explained Ayob.

“Apart from the Academic excellence achieved in the NSC exams, our learners have also excelled in our Jamiat endorsed exit exam for Islamic studies. This class also consisted of 9 Huffaz and 2 Hafizas.

We wish to congratulate our learners, their parents, our teachers and the Board of Governors and everyone else who contributed to these outstanding results,” Moulana Muhammed Badsha, TMS Headmaster said.

Central Islamic School in Laudium also achieved a 100% Bachelors Pass.

CIS Top Achievers:

Zuhayra Bashir     8 A’s 86.33%

Muhammad Ra'ees Carrim 7 A's 90.88%

Yaqeen Carrim 7 A's 84.75%

CIS sadly did not rank among the top schools in the country, but with a 4.2 average for distinctions which sits far above the current top school, it seems a technicality left the school short by just one student.

“The requirement is that you must have minimum of 20 learners to be ranked. Unfortunately this year, for some reason or the other, one candidate dropped out before the final exams and as a result we ended up with 19 learners,” Principal Manzoor Allimia told Laudium Today.

Al-Asr Educational Institute in Claudius, Centurion ranked 5th in Gauteng achieving a 100% pass rate, a 96% Bachelor’s pass and 67 distinctions from a class of 25.
