Gauteng North High Court Judge, Jody Kollapen was one of eight candidates interviewed by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) over Monday and Tuesday for the Concourt position.

In 1996, Kollapen served as the Chairperson for the South African Human Rights Commission.

On Wednesday, the JSC recommended five Supreme Court of Appeal judges Mahube Molemela, Rammaka Mathopo and Gauteng High Court judges Fayeeza Kathree-Setiloane, Jody Kollapen and Bashier Vally for appointment as justices to the Constitutional Court.

President Cyril Ramaphosa will appoint two for the vacant positions. His decision is expected to be announced in July.

Local resident Sanjay Govind said, Congratulations to Justice Kollapen for being shortlisted for the two vacant positions. We hope and pray that our "own" Justice will be one of the two nominations.

Judge Kollapen told Laudium Today, “I am honored and privileged to have been recommended for appointment to serve on the highest court in the country. It is now in the hands of the President.”

"Congratulations to Judge Jody Kollapen on behalf of the PLF members and community. Wishing every success and trust you will be selected by the President." Daya Chetty, PLF Chairperson.

Businessman Ismail Abramjee said to Kollapen, "Having watched all the interviews, there is no doubt that you bring a better perspective to the apex court. Your unfailing eloquence, your ability to isolate the issues on hand and your apt ability to apply the law and to separate fact from substance will bring added value to the court. May the President not miss this golden opportunity to appoint you. You certainly make the community very proud. We are immensely indebted to have you in our midst."

Laudium Today hopes that the President will appoint our Jody Kollapen to the highest court.
