Heavy rains in Pretoria over the past two days have affected some graves at the Laudium Cemetery, a resident said on Saturday.

Volunteers of the Central Muslim Burial (CMB) said they will go and reinstate graves where possible on Sunday at 10am.

The heavy rainfall has wreaked havoc on the roads and traffic in the Centurion area.

Severe flooding was also reported on Friday evening, which persisted into Saturday morning.

Roads and low water bridges in the Centurion area were flooded leading to the closure of the affected routes after some vehicles were trapped in the low water bridges.

Several men were rescued from their vehicles on Saturday morning. One motorist was rescued hanging onto a tree about 500m downstream in a river. He was located some four hours after his vehicle was swept away while attempting to cross over a bridge. Another man was transported to a medical facility in a critical but stable condition.

Some fallen trees were reported in the Irene Farm and cleared by services. A fallen tree was cleared in Party Street in Erasmia by volunteers of Laudium Disaster Management.
