Police officers from the Laudium station arrested five men on Sunday morning for being in possession of stolen copper cables.
Officers were on a routine patrol when they noticed a Hyundai H100 speeding on the R55 outside Laudium.
Sergeant Simon Chokoe, SAPS spokesperson told Laudium Today officers chased the bakkie and cornered them.
“Upon searching the suspects and the vehicle, a big red plastic bag containing uncovered electric copper wires were found which the suspects couldn't account for.”
“Uncovered electric copper cables were seized.”
“A case of possession of uncovered electric copper wires cables and tampering with essential infrastructure was opened at Laudium SAPS for investigation.” Chokoe said.
All five males aged between 27 and 44 years were immediately arrested.
“Police operations are in full swing. The community members should expect more police visibility.” Lieutenant Colonel David Sithole said.
The suspects are expected to appear in the Atteridgeville Magistrates Court.
