A Sixth Avenue upholstery business has been extensively damaged during a blaze on Saturday afternoon.
Laudium Disaster Management volunteers, PAJ Community Patrollers and Tshwane Emergency Services responded to the Laudium building shortly after 14:30.
On arrival, emergency workers discovered that the inferno was rapidly spreading through the building. The scene was cordoned off and curious onlookers and nearby residents were speedily evacuated. No injuries were reported during the incident.
City of Tshwane fire fighters battled the blaze for over an hour in a desperate attempt to salvage what remained of the structure and to prevent the fire from spreading to neighbouring residences.
Speculation that the blaze began as a result of a welding accident could not be confirmed. The cause of the blaze will be investigated by the necessary authorities.
