City of Tshwane calls on residents to apply for approved household waste bins

This month, the City of Tshwane will embark on a massive drive to replace broken and lost refuse bins to ensure that bins are provided to all households in serviced areas.

During this time, residents are encouraged to have their refuse bins replaced free of charge by applying for a refuse bin.

The City provides 240 litre refuse bins to residents to ensure an effective refuse removal system. These bins are provided to residents free of charge, with residents only paying a monthly tariff for the removal service.

Recently, our Waste Management Services Division received several queries relating to refuse bins not being collected, only to find that these bins were not issued by the City.

Residents must note that bins that have not been issued by the City (those without a serial number and the word “TSHWANE” embossed on them) will not be collected.

The City would like to encourage all households in serviced areas to apply for refuse bins at our customer care walk-in centres, or by calling the customer care line on 012 358 9999 or sending an email to customercare@tshwane.gov.za.

Residents are advised that all households who are eligible to apply for refuse bins and fail to do so will not have their household waste collected if it is placed in any container other than the City-issued bins.
